IN THIS ISSUE
RSS feeds distribute the content of your website to other users in formats that can be personalized and customized to the user’s preferences. The idea is to get a wider distribution for your web content and encourage readers to click through to your own site. You can distribute articles, video, product descriptions, sales announcements, and more via RSS. Promote your RSS by linking to it in a prominent place throughout your website. Link to it in the signature section of your forum member profiles. Increase visibility and subscribers by featuring a Subscribe button on your home page—be sure to make it visible without scrolling down. In addition, register your feed with RSS directories and search engines to give it wider online availability. Bear in mind that when they click on an RSS button, many users will see the XML code they’ll need to copy into the RSS readers they use. Some users may not know how to do this, so it can help to offer a page with an explanation of what RSS is and how it works, easy-to-understand instructions, and suggestions for free RSS aggregators.
